How To Jailbreak iOS 9 In 9 Easy Steps [GUIDE]

Updated on

Not too long after the release of iOS 9, Pangu released its new application that jailbreaks the operating system. In case you don’t already know, jailbreaking involves gaining root access to a smartphone or tablet’s operating system, so iDevice owners can install any unsigned software even if it’s not published on the Apple App Store. Jailbreaking leaves other vulnerabilities open to the phone (like viruses), so users should be careful when installing rogue software after jailbreaking their devices. Here are the steps to jailbreak any iOS 9 device including iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

How To Jailbreak iOS 9

First, the Pangu tool is only available for Windows clients, but that doesn’t mean Apple clients are completely shut out. Mac users can use a virtual machine to install Windows and jailbreak their devices.

Step 1: Always back up all important files before you do any type of changes to your device. Jailbreaking is an authorized hack, so back up your iDevice prior to any of these steps. You can use Apple’s iCloud or back up the device directly from iTunes, which stores the backup on your hard drive.

Step 2: Disable the “Find My iPhone” settings, which is a newly added feature in iOS 9. Go to “Settings,” then “iCloud” and flip off the option.

Step 3: Disable your passcode and Touch ID options. Go to “Settings,” “Touch ID and Passcode” and disable them both.

Step 4: Enable Airplane mode. Airplane mode is the first option in the “Settings” app.

Step 5: Download the Pangu app. You can download the software here or here.

Step 6: Open the downloaded executable and click “Start” at the first prompt. Pangu gives you an option to back up your device, but it’s recommended that you manually perform the back up to ensure it’s a viable archive.

Step 7: The Pangu app does its thing on the device and reboots it. The app prompts you to put the phone back into Airplane mode once again, and at this point your device is officially jailbroken.

Step 8: The app asks you to open Pangu from the device’s home screen and allow access to your photos. Tap “Accept” and then tap “OK” at the next screen.

Step 9: Your device reboots one more time, and you’re prompted to disable Airplane mode. After it’s disabled, run the Cydia app on the phone. Cydia is the unofficial app store for jailbroken Apple products. You can find several apps that you won’t find on the Apple App Store.

That’s it! You now have total control of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Use Cydia to find apps, but just remember to be careful what you install to avoid malicious software.
