How To Enable/Disable Notification Light On Nexus 5X And 6P

Updated on

When it comes to notification lights, some love them, while some don’t. I personally find notification lights very useful, as when it blinks, I know that there’s a notification, either sent by an app or by a missed call or a text message. Most of Google’s Nexus devices are equipped with a notification light, namely the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and now the latest Nexus 5X and 6P. This small blinking light is very useful, and it notifies users that something’s there worth seeing on your phone. Without this blinking light, for some of us, things would get really hard.

So here’s how you can enable or disable this notification light on your new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

Step 1: Launch the Settings app from the App Drawer.

Step 2: Tap on Sound & Notification.

Step 3: To enable the notification light, just slide the switch next to “Pulse Notification Light” to the ON position, and to disable or turn it off, just slide it to the OFF position.

By default, this small blinking light is turned off, and you will need to turn it on using this method. Once enabled, whenever you get a notification, the light, will blink, which means even if you are far from your phone, you will know that there’s an unread notification that needs your attention.

Right now there’s no way to customize the light. If, however, you want to customize it, then the Light Flow app will do just that. Basically this app allows you to control the LED on your Nexus device. The notification will be displayed beneath the speaker grille on the Nexus 5X, and on the 6P, the light is displayed at the top-left corner near the front-facing camera.
