BlackBerry Shares More Details; Pre-Registration For ‘Priv’ Begins

BlackBerry Priv is close to making its official debut, but before that the Canadian firm is granting interested buyers an opportunity to sign up for the slider device, and be among the first to get their hands on the Android-based phone, which is the first of its kind from the company. The firm reports that pre-registration is now live for the Priv.

Potential buyers who choose to pre-register for the device will be the first to know when the revolutionary new BlackBerry running on Google’s Android OS will be available for purchase. The Canadian firm has begun accepting corporate orders for up to 10 devices or more.

“Get news on PRIV and be the first to know when the revolutionary new BlackBerry, powered by Android, is available for purchase,” BlackBerry says.

BlackBerry has also shared more details of the upcoming Android headset on the pre-registration page. The new details confirm some of the previous leaks that the device will come with a 5.4-inch dual curved display, run on a powerful 3410 mAh battery and sport a magnificent sliding keyboard. The device will come equipped with a Schneider-Kreuznach camera, but the resolution details will be known only at the time of official launch.

BlackBerry has also confirmed that the device comes integrated with DTEK warning system. This app has been developed by BlackBerry inside its own lab to protect the handset from all kinds of privacy threats. BlackBerry claims the security and privacy features of the device are comparable to the Samsung KNOX.

All depends on Priv

Some information on the BlackBerry Priv is still missing, but don’t worry, previous leaks fill in the gaps. BGR notes that the smartphone will sport a QuadHD display and an impressive 18 MP rear camera. The device will have a powerful 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB inbuilt memory and a MicroSD card slot for expansion. It will reportedly run on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

BlackBerry is betting almost everything on the Priv. Earlier this week, BlackBerry CEO John Chen admitted that the company hopes to sell five million units of the new Android handset by the end of the year. In case it is not able to do so, then it will consider withdrawing from the highly competitive smartphone market.
