About a week after the massacre on the campus of a university in Oregon, there have been more deadly shootings on U.S. college campuses. This time it’s at Texas Southern University, and Houston police say two people have been shot.

Texas Southern University on lockdown

Police said one of the two people who were shot died at the hospital, and the other is wounded. A spokesperson for Texas Southern University told KHOU that the gunman was still being sought, although the Associated Press is now reporting that a “possible” suspect is in custody. Houston Police tweeted that the scene is not an active shooter situation. Officials placed the college campus on lockdown, telling staff to remain in their offices and students to remain in their classrooms or dormitories until the all-clear is giving. All classes have been canceled for the rest of the day.

The shooting happened in a university-owned student apartment complex. A third person was shot in the same location overnight, although that victim was treated at the hospital and released. Authorities haven’t said whether the two shooting incidents are related.

College shootings becoming an epidemic

NBC News is also reporting of another shooting that happened on Tuesday on the Texas Southern University campus. The victim was reportedly shot in the abdomen and hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Also today there was another shooting at Northern Arizona University which killed one male student and injured three others. CNN reports that there was a confrontation during the early morning hours between the alleged gunman, 18-year-old Steven Jones, who was a freshman at the university, and the four other students. Police said it appeared that Jones had shot the men multiple times.
