Netflix will soon come out with an adaptation of Kent Haruf’s novel Our Souls at Night for which it is considering Hollywood veterans, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, with whom negotiations are presently underway Redford could be producing the film as well.
Fonda and Redford together after four decades
Haruf’s novel, published in May this year, revolves around two elderly friends who live in a Colorado town very close to each other. Both have lost their spouses and live alone in big houses. They build a connection, and look back upon their lives and try to figure out what they want to do with their lives in the future. Fonda will star as Addie Moore and Redford as Louis Waters.
The actors last shared the screen together about four decades back, and at present, Fonda is 77, while Redford is 79. They have worked together on two movies in the past – Barefoot in the Park and The Electric Horseman, released in 1967 and 1979 respectively.
Deadline reports that the script of the movie is being written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who have written movies including 500 Days of Summer, The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns.
Netflix Inc’s Beasts of No Nation at TIFF
As of now, no deals have been signed yet, but the project will most likely go to Netflix, says a report from The Hollywood Reporter. Presently, the streaming firm’s first big feature film Beasts of No Nation, is playing at the Toronto Film Festival.
Other films starring Fonda and Redford are also playing at TIFF. On Saturday, Redford’s Dan Rather film Truth premiered at TIFF while Fonda’s Youth is also being shown at TIFF. Fonda has worked with Netflix in a comedy drama Grace and Frankie, where she was cast opposite Lily Tomlin. The series premiered earlier this year, and has been renewed for a second-season on Netflix.
Cary Fukunaga’s True Detective (First Season) was greatly appreciated by audiences, and the hype over Fukunaga’s latest project is building fast since the news of Netflix buying the film and giving it a proper award season push has come out. Beasts of No Nation is based on Uzodinma Iweala’s novel, and gives a sneak peek into the lives of the rebels who terrorize West Africa from the eyes of a young boy.
