BlackBerry Preparing Subscription Plan For BBM Stickers [REPORT]

Updated on

BlackBerry messaging app BBM offers sticker packs that help in spicing up text messages for users. Now to take advantage of its rising popularity, the Canadian company may be planning to offer some kind of a subscription plan for the stickers.

BlackBerry monetizing stickers

Stickers are similar to emojis but bigger in size and at times animated as well. Several other chat apps such as Facebook Messenger, LINE and Kakao Talk introduced stickers long ago, but for BBM, it’s relatively new. Despite being new, the stickers are quite popular among BBM users, and sales on the iOS have been really good. Realizing this, BlackBerry may be thinking of monetizing the stickers, for which it is reportedly creating a subscription plan.

According to a report from CrackBerry, a “Subscribe” option can be seen in the BBM shop. But on clicking it, a message is displayed that the user need to install a higher version of the BBM app to use it. This could mean that with the next update to the BBM app, BlackBerry could introduce this new feature as well. “Become a BBM Sticker Club member today and take advantage of over 100 stickers that you can use now plus the many sticker packs,” reads the description to the new feature. The pricing details are not known for now but are expected to be out soon.

All this indicates that BlackBerry might come up with a subscription-based sticker service in the future in which users will need to pay a monthly fee for access to the new stickers or something similar to this.

BBM Shop gets Disney Cars stickers

To push users’ interest, BlackBerry has been updating its BBM shop regularly. A few days ago, the BBM Shop was updated with a sticker pack from a popular movie released in 2006: Cars from Disney Pixar. Users not interested in animated kids films might not like this addition, but for users who have kids at home, this sticker pack will be a nice addition. The Cars sticker pack is priced at £1.50/$1.99.

In July, BlackBerry added a Monsters Inc. sticker pack to the collection. The Disney/Pixar movie was released about 14 years ago but is still popular. All the stars of the movie are included in the sticker pack: Sulley, Wazowski, Boo, etc.
