The Google Nexus 5, the firm’s flagship Android smartphone, was discontinued by Google earlier this year. But there were rumors that the Internet firm will soon come up with a revamped version of the device, and now we may have the first glimpse of the new Nexus 5 from an image first posted in the Nexus Indonesia Google+ community.
Google could bring LG Nexus 5
Rumors regarding the device first surfaced in May suggesting that Google has plans to produce two new Nexus phones working with Huawei and LG, having a screen size of 5.7-inches and 5.2-inches respectively. The leaked image shows the back of a white Nexus device with a sticker featuring a small red circle at the base of the device, hinting at a logo from LG. If the phone shown in the image is a legitimate one, then the new Nexus 5 is going to be an LG device, and not one from Huawei.
At the top, a camera lens can be seen while just underneath a circle of similar size is visible, which could be the fingerprint scanner that was featured in the rumors. Other features could be laser focus, dual-LED, iPhone 6-style flash and plastic galore. The all-plastic device is not a bad thing because it would mean that Google will again offer Nexus devices at low prices. The original Nexus 5 was priced at $349, and the Motorola Nexus 6 was priced at $649.
Huawei Nexus 6 also in rumors
There is a lot of resemblance between the device in the image here and the supposed LG device whose images were leaked late last week. It had a rounded back and a camera that seems to be slightly protruding from the case.
Last week, around the same time, renderings of the rumored Nexus 6 by Huawei were also leaked. Both Google and Huawei will benefit from the Huawei Nexus device. It will strengthen the presence of Google in China, and will help in building Huawei’s brand in the U.S. No information regarding the launch dates of these devices is available yet, but these can be expected to hit the shelves in the fall of this year as reported by ‘The Information’ in July.
