Find Your Stuff With The Tile Bluetooth Tracking App

Updated on

The startup behind Tile claims to have sold more than 2 million of the tiny tracking devices in less than two years.

Tile is a Bluetooth tracking device which offers to locate your keys, phone and other items. A new version of the tracker was announced this Tuesday which offers extended range and a new feature on the app which uses the Tile community to track down items outside range.

Updated Tile even easier to find

Simply attach a Tile to your tablet, smartphone, laptop or keys and track them wherever they may be using the accompanying app. Download the free app on multiple devices in case you lose your primary device.

Activate the tracker by pressing the “Find” button on the app, and listen for a high-pitched noise which will help you locate your items. The updated tracker will apparently emit a sound three times louder than the previous version. Users had complained that the first generation tracker was too quiet and did not help them to find their possessions every time.

The system is available on both iOS and Android. The “Community Find” function uses the devices of other users to find your item even if it is out of range. If the item is found, a signal is sent to your device with a map specifying where to find it.

An easy way to keep track of your most prized possessions

Tap twice on the “e” button to find your lost phone as it emits a sharp noise, negating the need to ring your own number. The system is quicker to use than Find My iPhone, and the fact that it works across multiple devices allows you to use friends’ devices to find yours.

If you always find yourself searching around for important items, it might be worth investing in Tile. The trackers are available for $25 each, which means that for $100 you can safeguard your phone, your laptop, your keys and one other item of your choosing. Forgetful parents might even consider attaching a Tile to their child for greater peace of mind.
