Galaxy Note 5 Release Date: August 12 [REPORT]

Updated on

For months, there have been consistent rumors that Samsung would launch its Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ earlier than expected to steal some of the thunder from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Now multiple reports have confirmed that the Galaxy Note 5 is indeed coming next month. Samsung has historically refreshed its Galaxy Note line in September.

Galaxy Note 5 may hit the stores on August 21

Sources at Taiwan-based wireless carriers told DigiTimes that the Korean electronics giant is gearing up to announce the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ on August 12 in New York. The phones will go for sale in major markets starting August 14. DigiTimes has a hit-and-miss track record with reporting the launch dates of upcoming tech products. So its latest report should be treated with some precaution.

However, another report from very reliable SamMobile points to the same announcement date. Inside sources told SamMobile that both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be unveiled on August 12. The publication says the devices will go for sale on August 21, which contradicts DigiTimes August 14 claim. SamMobile’s report looks more credible because Samsung has never brought its flagship devices to the market within a couple of days of unveiling.

Galaxy Noe 5 to be as powerful as a desktop

GSM Arena reported Monday that the Korean electronics giant “accidentally” leaked some important details about Note 5 on the FAQ page of its website. The leak suggests that Galaxy Note 5 will be as powerful as a desktop with 4GB RAM, 5.67-inch Super AMOLED display, and Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7422 chipset that combines CPU, GPU, RAM, memory, and storage on a single chip.

The Galaxy Note 5 will have a metal frame and glass back with a non-removable battery. The device will reportedly pack a giant 4,100mAh battery. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ with a dual-edge screen will replace the successor to last year’s Galaxy Note Edge. The S6 Edge+ will target mid-range buyers. According to SamMobile, it will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 16MP main camera, 5MP front snapper, and 3,000mAh battery.
