Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 5 has appeared in the rumor mill a number of times. Rumors and leaks have further gained momentum as its release date approaches. Last week, French website NoWhereElse.fr revealed features and specs of Samsung’s next-gen phablet. And now the often reliable Twitter user @OnLooks has released a video showcasing 3D model of the device.
The leak offers no big surprises
Its design offers no big surprises. The Galaxy Note 5 closely resembles the Galaxy S6 in terms of style. The back panel is curved towards the edges to give it a thin frame on the sides. The video shows a larger camera hole on the back to house camera and LED flash module. You can also see four cutouts at the bottom that belong to the S Pen stylus, charger port, headphone jack, and speaker.
Using the same design as the Galaxy S6 means the Galaxy Note 5 would lack a removable battery. However, that shouldn’t raise eyebrows as the Note 5 will be packed with a huge 4,100mAh battery. The Galaxy Note 5 will come with a mainstream microUSB 2.0 rather than the much-rumored Type-C USB port.
Galaxy Note 5 to feature auto-ejectable stylus
The stylus cutout indicates that S Pen would be auto-ejectable, says GSM Arena. Last month, the Korean electronics giant was awarded a patent for an auto-ejectable stylus. It uses magnets for auto-ejection, and relies on software. The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to feature a 5.89-inch Super AMOLED display, and a new Exynos 7422 processor.
In a related news, the Note 5 may come with a new software feature that would let users take easier and faster notes on PDF files. On June 30, Samsung filed a patent application for a feature called “Write on PDF” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). It enables users to “annotate and save PDF documents, images and files.” The patent filing does not reveal how Samsung would allow writing on PDFs.
