Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S and its bigger sibling 6S Plus have entered early production. Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that both devices would feature the Force Touch technology that can distinguish between a light tap and a hard press to bring up additional functions. The Cupertino-based tech giant has already added the technology in Apple Watch and the latest MacBook model.
New iPhones to retain the same display sizes
Bloomberg added that the new iPhones will retain the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes. The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will have a “similar design” to their predecessors. However, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that the new phones will be 0.2mm thicker and 0.15mm wider than their predecessor to accommodate the Force Touch sensors.
While the new devices have entered early production, sources told Bloomberg that mass production is set to kick off next month. The iPhone 6S production is expected to be smooth because it has a similar design to the current flagship iPhone 6. However, sources cautioned that the supply and yield of Force Touch-enabled displays could impact the timing and volume of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
iPhone 6S to have a dual-lens camera?
Recently, Altek CEO Xiaru Wen told Taiwanese website Business Weekly that the iPhone 6S will feature a dual-lens camera. Altek produces dual-lens camera systems for HTC and Huawei. Wen said Apple has resolved all the performance issues and developed some amazing apps to take advantage of the dual-lens camera system. Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will upgrade the iPhone 6S camera to 12-megapixel.
KGI Securities has said in the past that colors of the iPhone 6S would be closer to the Apple Watch color options. Users should expect a rose gold and a darker space gray iPhone 6S. Kuo added that the new iPhones will use a new Series 7000 aluminum alloy that will make them up to 60% stronger than the current flagship models. Other expected features include 2GB RAM, iOS 9, and an improved A9 processor.
