Galaxy S6 Plus May Have Cheap Chip, 16MP Camera

Updated on

A new leak about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus indicates the device could feature a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3,000mAh battery and 16MP camera. Just mere days ago, rumors suggested the smartphone would feature a 5.5-inch screen and curved edges, but a more recent leak suggests the phone could feature a 5.4- or 5.7-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display.

A 5.5-inch Galaxy sandwiched between Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S and larger Galaxy Note phablet could make for a rather strange lineup. Moreover, the rumored model could create problems on the sales front. Thanks to the expected lower-end processor, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus will likely cost less than the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Specs for Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus

The new handset will likely measure 151 millimeters in length and 73 millimeters in width. These speculated measurements make it 9 millimeters taller and 3 millimeters wider than the current Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. This is actually contrary to a previous report that stated the device will measure 154.45mm × 75.80mm × 6.85mm.  Forbes explained in a previous report:

“Returning to an external supplier for this key component will drive up the build cost of the S6 Edge Plus, but it’s worth noting that the S6 family was the first time Samsung had supplied handsets with the Exynos system outside of its home territory in any significant volume.”

Samsung’s smartphone struggle

We won’t find out until Samsung officially unveils the new device if the rumors and leaked photos are true Right now, the South Korean tech giant is struggling to make sales. A new smartphone that is similar to other models may or may not work in the company’s favor.

The company is also rumored to be planning to introduce a few more Tizen smartphone models in 2015 at a range of prices. Although the Tizen operating system sn’t as well known as iOS or Android phones, Samsung has managed to sell 1 million Z1 phones since the beginning of the year.
