Galaxy A8 With 5.7-Inch Screen, 5.9mm Thickness Leaks

Updated on

While Samsung fans are eagerly waiting for the upcoming Galaxy Note 5, another device from the Korean company’s stable, the Galaxy A8, has also been doing rounds in the rumor mill. Details of the Galaxy A8 first emerged in March. Now French tech website NoWhereElse.fr has obtained leaked images of the device. The French website has a respectable track record of revealing features of smartphones ahead of their launch.

Galaxy A8 thinner than iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6

The leaked images show that Samsung is taking smartphone slimness to a whole new level. The Galaxy A8 is just 5.9mm thick, compared to 6.9mm of the iPhone 6 and 6.8mm of the Galaxy S6. It is still thicker than 4.85mm of Oppo R5. However, one major difference between Oppo R5 and the Galaxy A8 is that Samsung’s upcoming phone will reportedly have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The A8 boasts of an impressive slimness, especially considering it will have a 5.7-inch full HD AMOLED display panel. A bigger screen coupled with a thinner form factor may raise concerns about bending issues that surrounded the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy S6. The phone’s design looks more like Galaxy S6 than a continuation of A-series. Its back panel features the camera, speaker and flash, though the speaker and flash have changed places.

Galaxy A8 may not be released in the U.S.

In the leaked photos, the Galaxy A8’s back panel is closer to the Galaxy S5. The images show Samsung’s UI on top of a localized version of Android. Its price and release date haven’t been revealed, but reports suggest that the device may not be released in the U.S. market. SamMobile leaked the Galaxy A8’s technical specifications in April.

The Galaxy A8 will run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It will reportedly feature 2GB RAM, 16-megapixel main camera, 5MP front-facing camera, and a huge 3,050mAh battery. The home button will house a fingerprint sensor to support both Android Pay and Samsung Pay. The Galaxy A8 could weigh just 140g.
