Apple’s upcoming iPhone upgrade will include a rose gold case color, something similar to the Apple Watch Edition, claims Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, in a new research note on Tuesday. In the research note, the trusted analyst noted more changes are planned for the Apple’s so-called “iPhone 6s.”
Reaffirms Force Touch input for iPhone 6s
Though Kuo revealed that Apple will offer a new rose gold option, he was silent on the price. Along with the rose gold case, Kuo noted that the upcoming model will feature a 12-megapixel camera and 2-gigabytes of RAM, along with other changes. As was expected, Apple A9 chipset will power the upcoming devices.
Kuo reaffirmed some of the earlier reports of a Force Touch input in the next-gen iPhone, claiming that the feature will be the USP of the upcoming iPhone, but cautioned that supply bottlenecks could be a concern.
“Force Touch can enrich user experience due to more input methods and support of handwritten signatures, which is beneficial for expanding the commercial market,” Kuo noted.
Apple working to prevent another ‘bendgate’ saga
Some of the other changes mentioned by Kuo include a new design with different case materials. The company will also address the bending issues that impacted the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus by restructuring the internal design. Apple will make use of Series 7000 aluminum, which is 60% stronger than the current metal used in the phones, to prevent another ‘bendgate’.
Kuo also noted that the 5.5-inch “Plus” models might be equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire covers, but the change would depend on whether or not it helps in addressing the drop test issues. To improve the sound quality, Kuo expects Apple to add another microphone near the current iPhone 6s speaker
Furthermore, the analyst noted that Apple has no plans for a new 4-inch iPhone model this year, and reiterated his earlier comments regarding an improved Touch ID sensor to better the Apple Pay experience with fast and secure transactions.
Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus would go into mass production in late August, and analyst expect the company to sell around 80-90 million units in 2015.
