Twitter Inc Launches Curator, A Real-Time Search And Filtering Tool

Updated on

Twitter has great news for the media organizations, publishers and broadcasters. The micro-blogging company has come up with a service called Curator for identifying, filtering and displaying tweets and Vine videos in real-time and on any screen.

Twitter makes it easy for media firms

The new product offers media organizations a quick and easy way to integrate tweets and other content into their TV newscasts, programs, websites or mobile apps. With the help of Curator, publishers and broadcasters can come up with a simple or complex query to shortlist content on a particular thought or subject. News organizations can benefit from the product by using it for showing real-time public reactions during telecasts of their shows.

Moreover, a simple query using the new service will help a user to search for tweets that have been re-tweeted a lot or search for tweets that include videos and reference a given hashtag. However, according to Techcrunch, the most “powerful” use of the service is its capability to allow users a “variety of ways” to “filter the Twitter “firehose” (meaning the full stream of all the posts taking place on Twitter’s network) in real-time.”

Use not limited to news organizations

Initially, Curator was focused only on media organizations, but it can be used in an entertainment context as well. A few examples of this are display of hashtag references during a TV-show and display of tweets at a music concert or festival, according to Techcrunch.

Twitter unveiled Curator earlier this year at the News:Rewired Conference in London, but the product was not yet available on a large scale. The product was in the beta stage at that point, and was being tested by several major organizations including the NYC Mayor’s office and Italian network Mediaset.

While this service will be most beneficial to the media industry, many other businesses will soon be able to take advantage of this service. It’s a competitor for Storify, and will allow news firms to connect readers with their best content. With Curator, Twitter will continue to increase its reach to a larger audience.
