WhatsApp’s voice calling is a hot new feature that everyone’s excited about. The popular instant messaging app is trying to be the number one choice for communication, be it through text or voice calling. While every other messenger is trying to attract users, WhatsApp already has a upper hand when it comes to user base, and now with voice calling, it surely is going to attract the eyeballs of many.
WhatsApp’s voice calling feature is first received to Android users, but it’s not active by default. There needs to be done a few extra steps to activate it but if you are on an iPhone and want this voice calling feature right now, then here’s how to do it.
Basically this feature is available to those who are running on WhatsApp Beta, but let’s get into the details.
Activating WhatsApp voice calling on iPhone
Step 1: The number one requirement for doing this is to be running on a jailbroken iPhone. If you are running on the latest version of iOS, which is 8.2, then there’s no jailbreak available for that. But let’s say if you are running an older version of iOS, and if you are jailbroken, then proceed to step 2.
Step 2: If you are running a jailbroken iPhone, then install the latest beta release of WhatsApp from Cydia. To do this, launch Cydia and install AppSync Unified Beta repository. If you don’t have this repository added, then you can add it from http://cydia.angelxwind.net. Once added, reboot the device and visit this link: https://dev2.whatsapp.net/ios/WhatsApp/
Tap on the Install WhatsApp Beta link from this page and finish the installation procedure.
Step 3: Now that WhatsApp beta is installed, you need to ask someone who already has this feature activated to call you. Once the call is received, this feature will also be activated for you.
This process is lengthy, and works only for jailbroken iPhone but that’s what we have for now. This voice calling feature will be available to Apple devices in a “couple weeks.” For now, try this method to enable WhatsApp voice calling.
