Now that Samsung has officially announced its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, tech enthusiasts have started looking forward to the Galaxy Note 4 successor, which is likely to be named the Galaxy Note 5. The Note 4 already featured the ‘best smartphone display ever.’ The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to take the display quality to a whole new level.
Galaxy Note 5 to be the first smartphone with 4k display
Several reports, including from GSM Arena, suggest that the Note 5 will be the world’s first smartphone with 4K display. It is expected to feature a 5.9-inch 4K Super AMOLED display with 2160 x 3840 resolution and 746ppi pixel density. The Galaxy Note 5 is rumored to feature a 21-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
Samsung’s dual-edge Galaxy S6 Edge has received positive response from tech experts. Buoyed by the enthusiastic response to the dual-edge display technology, a senior Samsung executive recently said that the Galaxy Note 5 may also feature a dual-edge display. However, it’s still unclear whether the Korean company will launch two versions, one with the standard display and another with curved edges, or only one device with dual-edge screen.
Though some media reports claim that Samsung would use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor in the Note 5, the Korean company is more likely to use its own Exynos 7420 chipset. Samsung has dropped Snapdragon 810 in favor of its in-house processor in the Galaxy S6. The new Exynos offers 20% faster performance and 35 less power consumption, so Samsung is unlikely to go back to Snapdragon 810.
Galaxy Note 5 to focus on Gear VR
Further, the Galaxy Note 5 will likely feature a 4,000mAh battery along with wireless charging and enhanced power-saving features. Among other things, the device will feature a heart rate sensor, retina scanner, fingerprint scanner, and waterproofing. Last week, Oculus Rift CTO John Carmack suggested that the Gear VR will get a full-fledged consumer launch with the Korean company’s next hardware cycle.
Samsung typically refreshes its Galaxy Note line at the IFA event in September. So, we can expect the Galaxy Note 5 to be announced ahead of Apple’s next flagship smartphone, and in time for the holiday shopping season. According to Sanjit Dutt of Ecumenical News, the Galaxy Note 5 will be priced between $760 and $912.
