Ron Louks, president of Devices and Emerging Solutions at BlackBerry, said the company is aware of the fact that users are productive mobile professionals who depend on their smartphones for day-long activity. Users in the United States and Canada can sign up for the BlackBerry Care protection plan at a price of $3.49 per month for a BlackBerry Leap, $3.99 per month for a BlackBerry Classic and $4.49 per month for a BlackBerry Passport. Warrantech Corporation, an Amtrust Financial Company, is overseeing the BlackBerry Care protection plan.

Apart from BlackBerry, rivals such as Apple, Samsung and Google also offer protection plans costing between $79 (iPhone) to $99 (Samsung and Nexus).

  1. Apple is now offering a trade in option that includes cross platform trade ins. People trading in their BB10 smartphones will probably will wonder if the BB10 device protection plan is transferable to the iphone. I talked to a Apple representative and he said probably not, but followed to say “normally Iphones’s don’t break down,” I thought no way, but another rep heard us talking and said ” its been over a year now at this Apple Store since we drew up a warranty claim.

  2. What do they mean by a replacement to minimise down time? A day wait, a week wait perhaps a month? So does the warranty people have to decide if user is eligible for a new phone? If the story would have wrote ” with this plan, if you phone stops working, your first trip to a retailer gets you a new phone before you leave. So is this not necessarily the case?
