How To Use Android 5.1’s New Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Quick Toggles

Google’s latest mobile operating system, Android 5.1, has officially been announced and is currently being rolled out to Nexus devices. As always, one can expect to see a few changes in the new operating system, but nothing major. One of the changes is the new screen pinning option, which allows you to lock your smartphone to a single application so kids or other people cannot use any other app. Also there are contact app improvements, volume tweaks and a few others. Additionally, the Quick Settings in Android 5.1 has been tweaked, so let’s learn what’s new and how to use it.

The Quick Settings panel can be bought down by swiping down from the top of the screen using two fingers. You can also swipe down to open notifications and swipe down again to open the Quick Settings panel.

Previously, tapping on the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi toggles would only toggle them on and off, but that has changed in Android 5.1 Lollipop. In the new OS, small arrows are placed next to the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi labels, indicating a drop down menu. Tap on it, and it will open a screen on which you can dig deeper into the settings related to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

For example, if you tap on the small arrow next to Wi-Fi, it will take you to a screen that allows you to select which Wi-Fi network to connect with. In prior Android versions, doing this from the Quick Toggles was not possible, and thus, this is a welcome change.

If you need to change more settings, there’s also a button for that in this new panel. Simply tap on it to open the Settings page.

If you haven’t gotten Android 5.1 yet, then you just need to wait a few days as the roll-out has already begun.
