Oil Price Rally Translates to Good Things for SandRidge Energy

(NASDAQ:STML), 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) and bluebird bio Inc. (NASDAQ:BLUE), on the other hand, took tumbles.

SandRidge Energy Jumps

Avalon Rare Metals Inc. surged +21.09% early in the day, though it is still trading just cents away from its 52-week low of $0.16. Richard Chilton initiated a position in the mineral exploration and development company in early 2011 and as of his most recent quarterly filing holds 281,000 AVL shares.

The share price of SandRidge Energy jumped +18.39% early in the day thanks to rebounding oil prices. News also broke yesterday that the firm will close its Odessa, Texas, office. The oil and gas company, which has been in Leon Cooperman’s portfolio since the fourth quarter of 2012, has fallen nearly -70% over the past year.

McDermott International climbed +17.17% – a move likely also related to the oil price rally. David Einhorn picked up a stake in the company in Q4 2013 and as of his most recent 13F filing holds 2.8 million MDR shares. The stock is down -4.47% year-to-date.

Stemline Therapeutics Tumbles

Stemline Therapeutics tumbled -9.09% early in the day, though it is still up +7.42% over the past week. The biotech company is among Farallon Capital’s investments. The stock is down -16.82% YTD.

The price of 3D Systems Corp. fell -8.93% in early trading today. The stock has fallen more than -15% in 2015. DDD, among Tiger Global’s holdings since the third quarter of 2012, lagged in after-hours trading yesterday as well.

The stock price of bluebird bio Inc. dipped -8.12% this morning, though the stock is still up an impressive +300% over the past year. Leon Cooperman picked up 39,000 BLUE shares during the third quarter of 2014.
