Netflix, Inc. Plans Live-Action Series Based on ‘Legend of Zelda’

To expand its audience further, Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action series based on the video game Legend of Zelda.

Netflix is apparently developing Legend of Zelda in collaboration with Nintendo, and it will be a live-action series based on the Japanese firm’s video game, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. Legend of Zelda is one of the hottest games played on Nintendo.

Netflix Zelda plans in early phase

The story runs around a young boy on his journey to save Princess Zelda and the fictional kingdom of Hyrule. The online streaming company has described the series as Game of Thrones for a family audience, according to The Journal.

An animated series of thirteen episodes inspired by Zelda was shown in 1989. However, there has not been any live-action version yet. In 1989, Nintendo’s Zelda was aired just for one season, and in 1993, a movie based on Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros was a flop.

According to The Journal, the collaboration is still searching for a writer for the series, which suggests Netflix’s project is in the initial stages, and there will be a little surprise if Nintendo or Netflix shelves the project even before it is launched.

As of now, there have been no comments from either Netflix or Nintendo.

Netflix prepares for Australia launch

Separately, Netflix is working fast to expand its market share, and recently in a bid to gain traction in Australia, the company held high-level talks with free-to-air broadcaster Ten Network to stand against competition backed by the Seven and Nine networks.

In March, the company will propel its services in Australia and New Zealand with different content compared to the United States library. If Netflix finds success in striking a partnership with Ten Network, then it will be a substantial partnership strategy anywhere after getting an aggressive international expansion as a standalone service. Also Pay-TV operator Foxtel has approached Ten for a possible partnership with its streaming service Presto.

Netflix U.S. officials have already started talking to Ten executives, and under any possibility of partnership, both Netflix and Ten will fund the new program and marketing initiatives, according to The Australian.
