Krispy Kreme To Hand Out Free Donuts Feb. 24

Updated on

Doughnut giant Krispy Kreme will celebrate the opening of store number 1,000 by giving out its famous donuts for free on February 24.

Krispy Kreme started life in the 1930s, in the south of the U.S.. The doughnuts were first sold in a general grocery store before a new, doughnut-specific location was opened in Nashville, Tennessee during the Great Depression. The store proved such a great success that rapid expansion followed, and by the 1960s Krispy Kreme was known throughout the Southeast of the U.S..

New location: Krispy Kreme Kansas City

Now the chain is opening a new store in Kansas City, Kansas, which takes the total number of stores to a landmark 1,000. The company now boasts stores around the world as well as in its native U.S., writes Carla Caldwell of the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The first customer at the new Kansas City store stood to receive 12 doughnuts for free, every week for one year. The next 99 people after that will be rewarded with 12 free doughnuts per month for one year.

Throughout the day on February 24, Krispy Kreme locations worldwide will be giving out one free Original Glazed doughnut, per person, to the first 1,000 customers of the day at participating stores.
