Fannie Mae: FHFA Director Mel Watt Holding Town Hall in Newark, NJ by Investors Unite
Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Mel Watt will be hosting another town hall meeting to inform homeowners about assistance programs offered through the Home Affordable Refinance Program, this time in Newark, NJ. The event will take place on Wednesday, March. 4 at Essex County College.
We’ve had great success with Investors Unite members getting some face time to tell Director Watt how important it is to end the conservatorship, and we’d love to see that happen with this event. In August, a team of investors, including IU Executive Director Tim Pagliara, traveled to Atlanta where they held a press conference and managed some one-on-one time with Director Watt. A few of our members also met in Detroit when Mr. Watt had a town hall there. Seeking Alpha’s David Sims wrote a piece about our investors who traveled to Miami for another of Director Watt’s townhall events.
It is so important for investors to have a voice in the ongoing debate on mortgage finance reform. These townhalls are a great forum for us to respectfully convey the message to Director Watt that not only does FHFA have the legal authority granted in the Housing Economic Reform Act (HERA) to end the conservatorship, but that keeping it and the Third Amendment Sweep in place could wind up doing more harm to taxpayers than good.
