Microsoft just introduced a budget-friendly internet phone called the Nokia 215. This feature phone will retail at the ultra-low price of $29. Although the device is primarily a feature phone, it includes a few smartphone features. The new phone is not much different from the Nokia 225 except for the price. The latter phone retailed for $54, making the new phone even a bigger bargain.
Microsoft Nokia 215 phone features
The phone features a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD display, 8MB of RAM, FM Radio, and Bluetooth 3.0. It is a 2G device is pre-installed with Facebook, Twitter, Bing Search, Messenger, and Opera Mini. This model lacks Office apps or additional One Drive cloud storage. It features microSD support for up to 32 GB.
Jo Harlow, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Devices Group, explained, “With our ultra-affordable mobile phones and digital services, we see an inspiring opportunity to connect the next billion people to the Internet for the first time. The Nokia 215 is perfect for people looking for their first mobile device, or those wanting to upgrade to enjoy affordable digital and social media services, like Facebook and Messenger.”
Both the Nokia 215 and Nokia 215 dual-SIM devices come in a choice of three colors, including bright green, white and nlack. Microsoft will initially roll out the phones in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East during the first quarter of 2015.
Nokia 215 – The rumored Spartan browser
In other Microsoft-related news, the company has plans to introduce a new internet browser during the upcoming press event for Windows 10. The new browser is codenamed Spartan, and it will be available for both personal computers and mobile devices. Spartan will be a completely new browser, but it is still unknown if it will replace Internet Explorer. Microsoft is said to be planning to model the Spartan browser after popular competitors.
It was previously noted that Microsoft could change the name of its browser due to the number of complaints it has received.
