The Google Translator app is now more powerful with a new set of features. The updated tool is now available for both Android and iOS devices offers a range of features that are perfectly suited for translating languages.
Word Lens feature
With the Word Lens feature, the app lets you use the camera mode to snap a photo of text and get a translation for it in 36 languages. That’s pretty handy if you are not able to understand a sign board or a menu. Now the same feature has evolved to let you instantly translate text using your camera. This translation happens in real time now, whereas in previous versions the user had to take a picture of text and mark which exact words they wanted to be translated.
The best part is that Word Lends will even work without an active Internet connection, which means if you are in a subway or any other place where you are not getting a good Internet connection, then you won’t have any problems with this app. This instant translation currently works for translation from English to and from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Better language detection
Apart from the camera translation, the app now also includes automatic language detection in conversation mode so that a conversation between two people who don’t speak the same language just became easier. It’s simple to use: “Simply tap the mic to start speaking in a selected language, then tap the mic again, and the Google Translate app will automatically recognize which of the two languages are being spoken, letting you have a more fluid conversation.”
Google noted in a blog post that these new updates will be rolling out to Android and iOS users within the next few days. For iOS users, this is the first time the camera translation and conversation mode will be made available.
