Verizon, the biggest U.S. telecom carrier, has officially launched the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge on its network. There had been intense speculation that the Big Red would offer the smartphone in early January. The Galaxy Note Edge was announced in September last year. Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile are already offering the device. The Galaxy Note Edge is a “limited edition” device that has been released only a few markets.
Unlocked Galaxy Note Edge priced at $800
Verizon is selling the Note Edge for $399.99 on a two-year contract. If you want to buy an unlocked Galaxy Note Edge, you’ll have to shell out $799.99. You can also get it for $33.33 on Verizon’s Edge program. Yes, the device is pretty costly. The Korean electronics giant is charging a premium price for its futuristic smartphone. But Verizon’s deal is much better than those of rivals.
For instance, AT&T charges $950 for the Note Edge. T-Mobile’s off-contract price tag is $870, while Sprint charges $840. Even US Cellular’s $820 gets undercut by Verizon. The Big Red is the last of major U.S. carriers to bring the Note Edge. US Cellular started selling the device on January 7 for $400 on a two-year contract. US Cellular also lets customers spread the payments over 20 monthly installments of $41.
Verizon may launch Nexus 6 next month
The phone’s novel curved display is unique. It works as a separate interface, displaying notifications, app shortcuts and other useful info. Its unique design is expected to appeal to early adopters. Expect the curved side display, everything else is similar to the Galaxy Note 4. It packs a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 515p pixel density.
The Galaxy Note Edge features 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, 3220mAh battery and 32GB of internal storage. Verizon said the device will work on its XLTE network. Verizon is also expected to launch Google’s Nexus 6 on its network in mid-February, but the carrier is yet to officially confirmed the release.
