3D Systems Corporation Unveils ChefJet 3D Printer At CES

3D Systems is showcasing its line of consumer and professional 3D printers at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. On Wednesday, the Rock Hill-based company unveiled ChefJet 3D printers specially for those with a sweet tooth. The company showcased ChefJet and ChefJet Pro at the event. Primary difference between the two is that ChefJet Pro can print color, while the standard ChefJet is monochrome.

Moreover, ChefJet Pro is a bigger platform at 10x14x8 inches compared to 8x8x6 inches of ChefJet. 3D Systems said ChefJet’s printing materials include a variety of recipes including vanilla, mint, chocolate, watermelon, cherry and sour apple. These materials can be printed in full color using ChefJet Pro. During the demonstration at CES, both printers created pretty good-looking candies.

Both ChefJet and ChefJet Pro will be available in the market in the second half of 2015. The Pro version is estimated to cost $5,000, while the standard ChefJet will be priced at $1,000. 3D Systems also unveiled many other 3D printers. In collaboration with The Hershey Company, 3D Systems launched CocoJet. It can print custom designs for chocolate.

3D Systems launches 3rd generation Cube 3D printer

The 3D printing leader also showcased Cube 3D printer, which is the first sub-$1,000 consumer 3D printer suitable for everyday use. It’s the third generation of Cube and boasts of higher resolution, and faster print speeds. It also boasts of multi-material dual-color cartridge system. Cube 3D printer has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, and it integrates with the Cubify mobile app.

Separately, 3D Systems announced earlier this week that it had acquired London-based botObjects to bolster its printer lineup. BotObjects has invented a 5-color cartridge system that can mix primary colors to create vibrant color combinations. 3D Systems is using botObjects’ technology in its CubePro C printer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

3D Systems shares jumped 2.23% to $31.57 at 10:40 AM EST on Thursday.
