YouTube Updates App For Apple TV

Updated on

Just in time for the holidays, Google overhauled it’s app for Apple TV. This update includes a new design, predictive search, personalized recommendations, and channel subscription capabilities.

Apple TV recieves revamped app from YouTube

YouTube, which is owned by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s main rival Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), is a significant source of media. People and companies from all over the world use this video website to share original content. The content offerings are expansive ranging from cute animal videos to young vloggers sharing their lives to music videos from the world’s biggest pop stars. There is no shortage of content and YouTube’s offers will continue to expand as the site grows.

Over a billion unique visitors check out YouTube every month and watch over 6 billion hours of video. This makes it the leading source of internet traffic around the globe. What’s more is that TV box sets such as Apple TV are also surging in popularity. Research group Parks Associates predicts sales of TV boxes will continue to grow and top 57 million worldwide by 2018. That number is triple the 20 million last year.

Apple TV gets four more app channels

It is a rare move for YouTube to revamp the Apple TV app. The last time it was upgraded was years ago. Apple also recently added four more channel apps to the TV box including The Scene (owned by media giant Conde Nast), UFC.TV, Fusion, and DailyMotion. The Scene brings magazine stories to life with videos from popular magazines like Vogue, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair. UFC.TV is a subscription based sport channel, Fusion is a pop-culture entertainment website, and Daily Motion is a smaller video sharing website.

Apple TV is one of the more popular TV boxes currently available in the market. Compared to other box top sets, it offers a more limited selection of video apps but it makes up for that with access to iTunes movies and television shows.
