This Is What WhatsApp’s Voice Calling Feature Might Look Like

Updated on

WhatsApp is the most popular choice for instant messaging on smartphones, be it Android, iPhone or Windows Phone. The simplicity and no-frills approach are what people love about this app. In February, WhatsApp promised it would bring voice calling, and everyone has been eagerly waiting to hear any development on this.

WhatsApp currently offers two versions, one that can be downloaded directly from its official website, and the other one that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. It is said the version which is offered via the website is the latest one, while the version on the Play Store is mostly updated later on. The version on the website was recently updated with a new feature that allows you to see how much data the application has used with voice calling. Dutch tech blog Android World was the first to notice this change.

However, it is worth noting that this new update doesn’t allow you to make voice calls but only displays statistics on how much data was used for calling. This might be an indication that WhatsApp voice calls are coming, and they should be able to work on 3G, 4G or WiFi. In fact, there might also be a feature which will allow you to record those calls and listen to it from the app, but right now there’s no confirmation on this feature.

Android World was able to create a few images based on this leak, and for sure, these images are interesting. When this feature gets released in future, the final version may or may not look like this, but for now at least, we have something to lay our eyes on. Right now it is unclear as to when this voice calling feature might be available, but hopefully it will launch soon.
