A few days ago, Mirae Asset Securities analysts said in a research note that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) would launch its Galaxy S6 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The event is just three weeks away. This release schedule suggested that the device would arrive a couple of months ahead of Samsung’s usual release cycle. That’s in line with rumors that the Korean electronics giant has to launch a rival to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to stem its declining sales.
No Galaxy S6 Edge model
Mirae Asset Securities learned from inside sources that the Galaxy S6 will have a “half-metal” body. Samsung has historically unveiled its Galaxy S series phones at the Mobile World Congress in February end or early March. Analysts further said that the world’s largest smartphone maker will also release a Galaxy S6 Edge model with curved display.
Korean publication Naver reported that Samsung pushed the release date forward to give the new smartphone a “head start” against competitors next year. It added that the Galaxy S6 and its Edge variant might be pre-loaded with several in-house components such as an Exynos processor and ultra-fast LTE chip. Turns out, Mirae Asset Securities’ report may not be true at all.
Galaxy S6 to be unveiled at MWC
MobileBurn has learned from inside sources that Samsung is unlikely to launch the Galaxy S6 at the Consumer Electronics Show as it’s not a mobile event. The company typically unveils its phones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The source told MobileBurn that the company may tease the Galaxy S6 at the CES. She said Samsung did have a plan for a “special Galaxy S6.” But Samsung wasn’t pursuing the Edge variant of its next flagship smartphone. She added that a launch at the MWC event is the most likely scenario.
Samsung is developing the Galaxy S6 under a project code named Project Zero. The company hopes that the S6 will generate massive sales like the Galaxy S3 and S4, though S5 didn’t taste much success. The company is planning to sell 45 million units of the Galaxy S6 next year.
