Groupon Inc Reports Record-Breaking Holiday Weekend Sales

Updated on

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) witnessed record-breaking holiday weekend sales in North America this year. According to the company, the four-day sales period was its most successful ever in its six-year history as an e-commerce marketplace. However, the point to note here is that Groupon hardly resembles the company it was six years ago.

Groupon a changed company now

Over the past year or so, the company changed drastically by expanding the range of deals, it offers and offering so-called “epic deals” involving celebrities. Apart from the increasing the number of deals, Groupon has also worked to improve the shopping experience for its users. With the help of Groupon’s mobile apps, shoppers can easily access the site anytime and anywhere.

From Black Friday through Cyber Monday, Groupon’s North American sales were up by over 25% compared to the same period last year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have now marked themselves as the two biggest days in Groupon’s North American history.

Groupon CEO Eric Lefkofsky said in a statement, “We just had our best days ever as a company as more and more shoppers are coming to Groupon via our popular mobile app to score big savings on a wide selection of amazing gifts.”

Lefkofsky added that this year, the number of deals offered was almost twice that of what was offered last year. Also the company made it a lot easier for users to find “something for everyone on their holiday list.”
