It hasn’t even been a full year since Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) released the Xbox One and the numbers are strong. The Xbox One and Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE (TYO:6758) Playstation 4 have been selling ahead of their first year performances.
Microsoft enjoys strong Xbox One sales
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s corporate vice president Yusef Mehdi reports the Xbox One outsold rivals PS4 and Nintendo Wii U over the last few weeks. He added that sales of game console tripled in the United States thanks to the limited promotional offer that brought the Xbox 360 to $349.
Another possible reason for the game console’s strong success involves popular game titles. Microsoft recently released the remastered version of Halo and also released free versions of other popular new releases like Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty.
Xbox handles sales numbers differently from rivals
Despite all the pointers of Xbox’s strong successes, we cannot pinpoint hard sale numbers with ambiguous reports. The console’s top competitors Nintendo and Sony already share sales numbers. Nintendo openly reveals shipping numbers every quarter and Sony often reveals their sales numbers at events or inside financial statements. Microsoft doesn’t generally share sales numbers or shipments in official statements. Instead, the tech giant bundled numbers of Xbox One and Xbox 360 within the last two statements.
Mehdi’s recent blog post summed it up in a recent blog post, “The response to this wave of blockbuster game releases and new bundles has been amazing. Sales have skyrocketed since the new price took effect on Nov. 2. Compared to the previous week, Xbox One sales in the US have more than tripled, which is exciting as more and more friends will be playing together this holiday. As we head into the busy holiday season, Xbox One led generation eight console sales in the U.S. for the past two weeks. Shortly, we will have sold in to retailers more than 10 million Xbox One console.”
Microsoft is ready to wrap up a great year for Xbox 360.
