Updated on

Crime is a fact of life in major American cities today. But not all U.S. cities are alike when it comes to crime, and a few cities have very high crime rates compared to others.

Neighborhood Scout recently ranked the most dangerous cities in the U.S. by comparing all cities with a population greater than 25,000 and the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents in each city. The data was taken from the Census Bureau’s most recent population figures and the FBI’s most recent crime reports. Cities with the highest violent crime rates ranked highest.
