Obama Hits Back At Michael Jordan's Golf Trash Talk

Updated on

Trash talking among friends on the golf course is common. In fact, there is sometimes more trash talking off the course, before and after a heated match among good friends.

Michael Jordan vs Barack Obama

First it was Michael Jordan trashing President Barack Obama’s golf game, and now it is Obama hitting back.

In an interview with Ahmad Rashad, Jordan was asked who he’d like to play with as a golf partner. Jordan first said his choice would be Obama, known as a good athlete, but then he changed his mind.  “I never played with Obama but I would,” he told Rashad. “But no, if it’s OK I’d take him out. He’s a hack. I’d be all day playing with him.”  Rashad then looked into the camera awkwardly and asked Jordan if he really wanted to “say that, the president of the United States is a hack?”

“I never said he wasn’t a great politician,” Jordan said. “I’m just saying he’s a sh***y golfer.”

Obama hits back

Now Obama is swinging back, saying that if he played golf twice a day like Jordan the situation might be different.  Obama, of course, has a day job.  “He might want to spend more time thinking about the Bobcats.. er, or the Hornets, but that’s another issue,” Obama jabbed. The Hornets, of which Jordan is an owner, have started out the season with a losing record and are projected to do poorly in the 2014 – 2015 NBA season.

“Mike and I know each other,” Obama said in an interview on WJMR radio Monday. “I’ve never played golf with Mike,” the President said, noting that the two times he did play with Rashad their team won.  “I don’t think Michael was very well informed about this. He might have been trying to give Ahmad a ratings boost on the show. There is no doubt that Michael is a better golfer than I am. Of course, if I was playing twice a day for the last 15 years then that might not be the case. He might want to spend more time thinking about the Bobcats… or maybe the Hornets. But that’s a whole ‘nother issue,” Obama said as the radio host laughed. One interesting game of golf that might test the mental toughness might be trash golf, where friends are allowed to trash talk in a player’s backswing.
