Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is alerting mobile and desktop users of upcoming privacy changes. The new Privacy Basics feature guides users through steps to tweak privacy settings to their own liking. The interactive guides offer customizable settings in three areas including the following: “what you see”, “what others see about you”, and “how others interact with you”.
Prepping for next year’s changes
The social media giant also reminded users to review changes within the terms of service and policies for data collection, advertising, and tracking cookies. According to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), many of the changes were made to included transparency regarding operations. This involves details on how location information is collected and used on mobile devices, information about the new Buy button that allows users to make purchases without leaving the website, an explanation on how Facebook analyzes data to enhance apps, and additional details on how Facebook shares data between services.
The most important thing regarding Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s policy change is how the site now respects user’s advertising preferences regardless of device. Prior to this change, a user could opt of adversiting settings on a laptop but the same settings would not apply on the user’s iOS device. These changes will officially take place on January 1st 2015.
Facebook to launch career-oriented site
Early next year, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is reportedly set to launch a social website for professionals called Facebook at Work. The site will directly compete against social media rival Linked In. Sources reported to the Wall Street Journal the new site would allow people to chat with co-workers as well as collaborate on projects. Right now, Facebook’s staff is testing a beta version (and ad-free) of Facebook at Work. After the holidays, a select number of the site’s users will be able to access the site.
Facebook is an integral part of life for many people, and so it only makes since the social media giant takes on the workplace.
