Updated on

Car ride provider Uber has gotten a good bit of bad press in the past week due to some serious allegations of privacy violations against the company. Uber’s “God view” is a feature that is available to only Uber employees and it allows them to track and view customer activity logs. Ashton Kutcher, an Uber investor, posted his thoughts on this matter on his Twitter account.

If the idea that someone might be tracking your movements upsets you, you can delete you can permanently delete your Uber account if you want to. However, simply deleting the app is not a good idea, as the firm still has your details and you aren’t really solving the problem. Basically this means that your account will still remain active.

You can, however, manually delete your account on a permanent basis. Note, however, that you should follow these steps only if you are really sure that you won’t want to come back to the service in the future. The actions performed here are permanent and irreversible.

Steps to properly delete Uber account

Its really pretty simple to permanently delete your Uber account:

  • Visit the Uber support site to create a new support request.
  • Fill out the required fields and in the subject line, enter “Close my Uber account”.
  • In the message, provide your name and mobile number and ask to the company to close your account.
  • Select your Uber city and then click on the Send button.

Since this is a support request, it will typically take a few days for the company to process your request. You’ll get an automated reply from them when your account is officially deactivated. You can now delete the Uber app from your device and rest assured that you are not being tracked.
