Charlie Munger’s Psychology Mind Maps, Seeking Wisdom

If you want to know about the properties of elements then you should read the periodic table. If you want to know about the solvency of a company then you should look at its balance sheet. What if we want to learn about our own irrationality? Without any doubt I would read Charlie Munger’s psychology of human misjudgment. I came across this gem three years back. Every time I read this, I learn something new about my irrationality. Guy Spier is a Zurich based investor and author of a book entitled The Education of a Value Investor. In a recent interview he told about the value he got out of Charlie Munger’s psychology of human misjudgment.

For 18 months, Mr. Spier listened to nothing in his car but a lecture on human misjudgment by Charlie Munger, Mr. Buffett’s vice chairman at Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B). Of the two dozen mental mistakes cited by Charlie Munger, “I realized I was guilty of all of them,” No wonder he has sought, as he says in his book, “to banish the false assumption that I am truly capable of rational thought.” Once he accepted “just how flawed my brain really is,” he writes, “I could design an array of practical work arounds based on my awareness of the minefield within my mind.” To escape what he calls “the New York vortex” of bad influences such as envy, greed and hyperactive trading, Mr. Spier moved his fund to Zurich in 2008.

Charlie Munger: Mind Maps – Review

Great Addition to the Previous Versions By Adrian Aziyu

Format: Kindle Edition

Mind Maps: Quicker Notes, Better Memory, and Improved Learning 3.0 is a great book for improving learning, thinking, creativity, and memory. I’ve been reading it since the first version. I will admit, the first version was mediocre at best, however, it was one of the first and few mind map books in digital platform at the time. Version 2.0 was a big step up as a well-written and organized guide with good explanations and illustrations. It really set the standard for mind mapping as I noticed many `wanna be authors’ copy its format and outline, sometimes word for word. You’ll even find reviews on other books saying how they found the content to closely resemble this book.

Version 3.0 is excellent. It nicely builds on the first two to provide more ideas, uses, and explanations of mind maps and mind mapping. It covers more original applications than anything else I’ve read; even applications one wouldn’t think of like recall and diagnosis. The examples are real world, the instructions are easy to follow, and the illustrations look clean and professional.

As a student, Mind Maps: Quicker Notes, Better Memory, and Improved Learning 3.0 helped me tremendously in school. The chapters on mind mapping books and lectures gave me a system to learn and remember information far better than before. With it, my grades were never higher, going from C’s and B’s to getting mainly A’s.

Now as a professional, the information is helping me out even further. I’m using it at work to better manage tasks, plans, and projects; putting order and organization to not just my own thoughts, but my team’s as well. It’s improved my problem solving to develop better and more creative ideas, which has received much praise from my superiors. I’ve also had tremendous success in sales to simplify presentation of complex information to customers and clients.

All in all, Mind Maps: Quicker Notes, Better Memory, and Improved Learning 3.0 will help anyone advance their thinking, learning, and problem solving. It is a must for students, planners, project managers, writers, and for presentations, teaching, writing a thesis, etc
