There have been a lot of debates and speculations over whether Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) should acquire Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA). In fact, a report claims that Apple’s mergers & acquisitions head had met Tesla CEO Elon Musk last year. Both are highly innovative companies. According to Business Insider, they would complement each other.
Why Apple co-founder loves Tesla Model S
At Tesla’s latest earnings call, Elon Musk said that manufacturing was the biggest challenge before the company because a car requires thousands of individual components. Apple could help the luxury automaker resolve the manufacturing issues. The Cupertino company makes millions of iPhones, iPads and Macs every year. Tim Cook is a supply chain genius.
There is still no official word on whether Apple would acquire Tesla. But Steve Wozniak, the man who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, loves Tesla. In an interview with NBC News, Wozniak said that he owns a Tesla Model S. Woz loves his Tesla sedan “more than any other car” he has. He said Model S is a great car. You get free charging and free Internet for the car’s life.
Wozniak was surprised at the way Tesla markets its car. Unlike most automakers, the Elon Musk-led company sells its cars like consumer electronics. Woz had once ordered the car, but he cancelled it the week it was due. But then Elon Musk told him that he wasn’t a true Silicon Valley boy if he ordered a Model S, cancelled it and purchased a gas-guzzler instead.
Woz is going to give Apple Watch a try
Steve also talked about Apple Watch and virtual reality headsets like Oculus Rift. He has tried many smartwatches, but he hates them. However, he expects Apple Watch to be different from the existing ones in appearance and functionality. He is going to give Apple Watch a try when it arrives next year. He said virtual reality is something that is “going to be really big.” He believes it will be the greatest thing as a gaming platform.
Apple shares fell 0.32% to $109.35 in pre-market trading Wednesday.
