Mark Cuban: Not Investing In Uber Was “Probably My Biggest Mistake”

Updated on

Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire Mark Cuban spoke with FOX Business Network’s (FBN) Deirdre Bolton about his thoughts on Uber and Ebola in the Dallas area. Cuban said, “I had a chance to invest in Uber and didn’t. Probably my biggest mistake investing.” When asked whether he is nervous about the recent Ebola presence in the Dallas area, Cuban said, “I have zero” and that “with the Mavericks we’ve taken precautions.” Cuban went on to say, “it’s something you have to be aware of, something that you have to pay attention to, but it’s not something I’m really concerned about.”

Mark Cuban on the competition between Uber and Lyft:

“Travis who runs Uber, he and I did a business together before Uber and actually I turned down, well I had a chance to invest in Uber and didn’t. Probably my biggest mistake investing, but Travis is a grinder. He works hard he’s smart and he’s aggressive and when you’re aggressive sometimes you know, you tend to be a little heavy handed.”

Mark Cuban on whether he is concerned about Ebola in the presence of Dallas:

“It’s down the street from me. I have zero. With the Mavericks, we’ve taken precautions with the Mavericks. We’re very aware. We’re telling people what to be aware for, so if someone comes in, if they had the flu or if they look like they had a bad cold. We’ll pay attention. I don’t think it’s an issue. The reason why if you look at Nigeria, it’s a country that is almost comparable to the United States. They border almost all the West African countries having problems and having significant issues yet they’ve been able to keep in under control. So if Nigeria can do it with the resources they have, we certainly can do it. We’re not a border country. It’s something you have to be aware of, something that you have to pay attention to, but it’s not something I’m really concerned about.”

Mark Cuban on the Guardian article claiming the Whisper app has geo-identification trackers:

“I read the response by Whisper and they didn’t say it was categorically false. They just said you are misunderstanding, right. They do keep geo-identification. They do want to know and what they said is, it’s not very good the way we do it, so don’t be scared, which isn’t much of an answer…it was kind of disappointing and so they have a lot to be concerned about. You can’t be anonymous and be a media company that’s trying to customize. Anonymous and customization don’t go together. They should be the exact opposite of each other.”
