Evernote’s Collaborative Note Taking App Just Got Better

Updated on

With over a 100 million users, CEO Phil Libin knows that it has to keep the company relevant as more and more people come on board. Business users presently pay $10 for the service each month and the two biggest changes to the app are geared towards enterprise users.

Evernote targets enterprise users

Work Chat was developed as a result of user requests and allows for real-time chat within your circle or with anyone who uses Evernote. Additionally, it allows users to share notes, links, messages and even entire notebooks with this new feature. This new feature will be available on Mac and PC as well as for iOS and Android sometime in November or December.

Libin also showed-off a second major addition called Context which provides a “news feed” of information related to what is being written about and saved by customers. That includes pertinent news to past notes and collaborations. The news will come from a number of sources including The Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, Inc. Magazine and Fast Company among others. Business members will also be treated to Factiva information which is a division of Dow Jones. Context will be made available later this year on the aforementioned platforms that will see Work Chat.

The CEO was also proud to unveil Scannable, a stand alone app for iOS that will be released sometime this year as well. It allows users to scan receipts, business cards, essentially paper and turn it into a new note. If the app is opened it doesn’t even require you to “shutter” your phone or tablet’s camera, the app recognizes paper and takes a picture immediately. While this, for those most part, already exists in the Evernote app, this is promised to be both faster and easier. A redesigned Punultimate handwriting app is also a few weeks away for iOS only.

New web client for “focus”

Finally, Evernote announced that it is making its web client easier to use in order for users to keep “focus.” It was built with the new user in mind to be as minimal as possible and has a very sharp layout that most are calling a big improvement. Unlike the other features that won’t be available until later this year, that rebuild is finished and allows users to either keep their current web client or move to the new minimal client.
