Charge your phone wirelessly with Ultimus Qi Stand [KICKSTARTER]

Updated on

Wireless charging is still not supported on many smartphones and tablets, but it is an enticing piece of technology that would be great to have. That said, if your smartphone does not support Qi-based charging, or if you’re looking for a good Qi-based charging dock, then here’s an interesting Kickstarter project that’s worth taking a look at.

Ultimus Qi: Wireless charging dock + charging receiver

The Ultimus Qi charging dock not only looks great but also works great. You simply have to slip your smartphone or tablet up to 7-8″ size in and the charging will start instantly. For devices that are not Qi-enabled, the Kickstarter project also offers a new charging case. The case/receiver will allow such devices to use wireless charging. The system works with: iPhone 5/5s, Samsung Galaxy S5, S4, Note 3, Note 2 and LG G3 smartphones.

What makes Ultimus Qi stand out is that it is customizable in the sense that the sliding dock can be moved around. It’s made such that almost any smartphone and even 7-8″ tablets will work with it. The Ultimus Qi holds your device at a 70 degree angle so that you can still easily use your device or view the screen. The base support can be positioned at different heights, so that the center of the receiver coil on your phone is properly aligned with the center of the transmitter coil on the dock to achieve optimal charging efficiency. You can place your phone in either landscape mode or portrait mode when charging.

The Ultimus Qi will work out of the box with devices such as Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2013 model), Lumia 822/920/928/1520, Lumia Icon, HTC 8X (Verizon), Droid DNA, LG G3, G2 and more. For devices like the Galaxy S5, S4, Note 3 and such, you’ll need to purchase a charging receiver.

As of September 16th, a total of 234 people have backed this project. The goal is to reach $30,000, out of which $10,059 is raised so far with 11 more days to go. If you’re interested to get your hands on one Ultimus Qi, then you’ll need to shell out $45 for a charging dock, while $57 will get you the dock and a charging receiver for compatible Android phones. iPhone 5/5S users can get a case for $75.
