Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced a few days ago that it would hold a media event on September 30. The software giant is widely expected to release Windows 9 Technical Preview at the event. Though the event is still about two weeks away, notorious Russian tipster WZOR is out with more information on Windows 9.
Some online publications have already received Windows 9 preview from Microsoft
Citing WZOR, Jan Willem Aldershoff of Myce.com said that several online publications have already received Windows 9 preview from Microsoft. But the Redmond-based company has asked them not to publish reviews or release screenshots until September 30. The version currently in the hands of the press will automatically be updated on September 30. WZOR said the update will activate many features that were not available before the update.
The Russian leaker also said that the software giant is planning to distribute the enterprise version and retail Windows 9 OEM Pro in one distribution. What’s more, OEM Preview versions of the new OS would be made available only to high volume partners. The RTM version will arrive by the end of 2014. WZOR said Microsoft may also change the activation policies.
The company will allow users to activate Windows 9 on the same hardware an unlimited amount of times. Moreover, the number of times it’s possible to reactivate the OS license will go up. In the past, there have been consistent rumors that Microsoft may give away Windows 9 to existing users for free, or offer a compelling incentive to get them to upgrade. WZOR said it’s still unclear whether Microsoft would go ahead with that strategy.
Windows 9 features leaked
Over the past few days, German websites WinFuture and ComputerBase have released a number of videos and screenshots. They revealed almost every detail of Windows 9 Technical Preview. The new OS will get the traditional Start menu mixed with Live Tiles. Microsoft has also added a notification center to Windows 9. It will be a radical overhaul compared to its much-maligned predecessor.
Windows 9 will also get many of Windows Phone features such as Storage Sense and WiFi Sense. What’s more, Microsoft’s Cortana virtual assistant will also make its way to the new OS.
Microsoft shares fell 0.77% to $46.40 in pre-market trading Wednesday.
