Nexus 6 To Get WiFi Calling From T-Mobile [REPORT]

Updated on

Earlier this month, there were reports that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Nexus 6 will be released On Halloween, October 31. The Internet giant is already planning a secret event. Now, Seth Weintraub of 9to5Google has learned from T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) that the phone is indeed coming in time for the holiday season. That timetable is in line with Google’s Nexus release calendar.

Nexus 6 to tussle the iPhone 6

What’s more, T-Mobile is working to provide infrastructure for WiFi calling service on Nexus 6. The U.S. telecom carrier already offers WiFi calling on many other Android devices. But the company doesn’t support Nexus 4 or Nexus 5. Google fully controls the software for Nexus, so its devices are bloat-free. Nexus 6’s hardware and the Android L operating system will support WiFi calling.

WiFi calling is something Nexus fans will love. The feature is clearly meant to tussle Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 6, which sports the same feature. Google has relied on HTC, Samsung and LG Electronics for its Nexus products in the past. But this time the company has found a new partner: Motorola. Reports suggest that Motorola will be responsible for Nexus 6 production.

Nexus 6 to have powerful specifications

The next-gen Nexus phone has appeared on AnTuTu benchmark in the past. Benchmark specifications indicate that the phone will have a Quad HD 5.2-inch screen with 1440×2560 resolution, quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor with 2.7GHz clock speed, Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB RAM, 13-megapixel main snapper and 2.1MP front camera.

Last month, Google shipped two Nexus 6 units to India for demo purposes. The phone had a declared value of $578. Actual price of the device may be different from the declared value. The phone was also spotted on the U.S. retailer Best Buy’s website last month. However, Best Buy showed its name as Nexus X, with a price tag of $499.99. There have been reports that Google may launch its new phone as Nexus X rather than Nexus 6.

Google shares ticked up 0.41% to $595.67 at 10:16 AM EDT on Thursday.
