Nexus 6 (Nexus X): When Will It Be Announced?

Updated on

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Nexus 6 is a highly anticipated device. People love it because it’s jam-packed with high-end features but costs less than most high-end Android smartphones. However, release date of the phone remains a bit of a mystery. It’s been almost a year since the tech giant unveiled the Nexus 5. Based on the annual refresh cycle, the device should have been announced by now.

Nexus 6 to be launched on Halloween

It seems like we don’t have to wait much longer for the next Nexus Except the first one, which was launched in January, new models of Google’s flagship phone have been launched around the year-end. Nexus 5 was announced in October, and the third and fourth versions were released in November. Phone Arena has learned from its reliable sources that the Mountain View-based company will unveil the device on Halloween, October 31.

But Google won’t organize a mega-event for the Nexus 6. Instead, the company is planning a secret launch, and the device could even be launched without an announcement. Nexus 6 will be manufactured by Motorola, which was sold to Lenovo Group Ltd. (OTCPINK:LNVGY) (HKG:0992) earlier this year. What’s more, Google may not use the name Nexus 6. The company may go for “Nexus X” name because family of novelist Philip K. Dick owns the rights to the name “Nexus 6.” The name Nexus X has also appeared on the website of retailer Best Buy.

Nexus 6 reaches India for demo purposes

Last month, the Nexus 6 arrived in India for demo purposes. The company had shipped two Shamu phones to India on August 20. Shamu is the code name for Nexus 6. AnTuTu benchmark specifications show that the Nexus 6 will have a 5.2-inch Quad HD screen with 2560×1440 resolution. The new phone is expected to be powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 2.7GHz clock speed. It will have 3GB RAM and up to 32GB of internal storage.
