Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s first attempt at big-screen smartphones seems to have scared most of its rivals. The company’s new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus received well over four million pre-orders on the first day. It indicates that consumers across the world have gone crazy for the iPhone 6. Now reviewers are also going gaga over Apple’s new releases. First reviews of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released Tuesday night.
iPhone 6 brings you a lot of benefits
Geoffrey Fowler of The Wall Street Journal said the 0.7-inch increase in the screen size from iPhone 5S to iPhone 6 brings you a lot of benefits. There is an extra row of apps and an extra email in your inbox. The new devices also make long-form reading easier. Fowler noted that users get at least 30 more words on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 screen compared to its predecessor on the Kindle app, even if font size remains roughly the same. And the “zoomed” mode in new devices is like reading glasses for people with poor vision.
Joshua Topolsky of Bloomberg Businessweek said the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have seen significant design changes compared to the iPhone 5S and 5C. Both new phones have ultrathin aluminum chassis. The 4.7-inch model is just 6.9mm in thickness, and the 5.5-inch variant is 7.1mm. They feel incredibly skinny compared to the iPhone 5S. However, Topolsky cited some weaknesses in the iPhone 6 design.
The Leica-esque controls and chamfered edges made the iPhone 5S stand out in the crowd of Android smartphones. The iPhone 6’s design is impressive, but you might not know the iPhone 6 from the HTC One or Galaxy S5. Its protruding camera and the bold antenna lines make the iPhone 6 “less disciplined” than Apple’s previous devices.

Molly Wood of The New York Times said Apple’s new phones have excellent call quality. She praised the battery life of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6. Wood said its battery lasts two days without a charge. The iPhone 6 Plus also has a pretty good battery life considering its screen size. Its battery easily survives a day of constant use.
Walt Mossberg of Re/code believes the iPhone 6 is the “best smartphone around.” It’s a wonderful upgrade for existing iPhone users, and others as well. Cupertino has managed to increase the display size by 38% with just 13% increase in the phone’s body. All these positive review indicate that the problem is not whether the iPhone 6 is good, but which one to buy.
Apple shares were down 0.19% to $100.67 in pre-market trading Wednesday.
