Get The iPhone 6 On eBay By Paying A Hefty Premium

Updated on

Early adopters of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus who pre-ordered their iPhone are now preparing to pocket big profits of over $1,000 by selling it on eBay, says a report from SMH. The iPhone company started its pre-order session at 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, and the order page soon crashed due to heavy demand.

iPhone 6 Plus on eBay at $2,400

Only last week, Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in an event in Cupertino, Calif. Seeing the insane demand for the two new flagships from Apple, one Australian eBay seller has priced the new 64GB iPhone 6 Plus, a phablet model at 5.5 inches, for $2,400. The eBay seller said the person who wishes to buy an iPhone at this price can collect it after Apple delivers it on Sept. 19.

Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $1,129 on Apple’s official store, but the arrival time is somewhere between three and four weeks after the release, which means that it will be shipped somewhere in mid-October. There were no details about the quanity of handsets that will be shipped in Australia on Sept. 19. On eBay, around 175 Australian sellers posted their yet-to-be shipped item for sale at a premium over the official advertised prices.

No check of re-sellers of iPhone

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company has always made it a point to keep the price contained across various retailers and operators, but it definitely cannot exercise any control over the amount of profits earned by individuals in the wake of fierce market demand. Every state has its own laws to keep a check on scalpers from generating high profits from selling limited-supplied items such as tickets to the AFL grand final and music concerts.

However, Consumer Affairs Victoria said that the same check cannot be exercised on the iPhone because it is a product, not an event. Likewise in Queensland, it is a crime to earn a profit of more than 10% of the original price on the resale of tickets to events at various sporting venues.

Other than the two new iPhones, the company also released its iPhone payment system (Apple Pay) and the Apple Watch, which will be released in early 2015 in the United States.
