We know that the economy has been just fine for publicly traded companies. Second-quarter earnings for the S&P 500 companies were about about 8.4%.

What’s interesting is that profits have been even better for private companies, and not just the small start-ups that are beginning at zero and therefore have spectacular-looking growth rates.
