Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) announced that it already sold 10 million units of PlayStation 4 in just nine months, since launching the device in November last year. Japanese multinational conglomerate made the announcement during the Gamescon press event today.
In April, Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) sold 7 million units of PlayStation 4 compared with the 5 million Xbox One units sold by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).
Overwhelming response for PlayStation 4
At the time, Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said, “The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice.”
The latest sales figure of Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) showed that it was able to sell around 3 million PlayStation units over the past three months or maybe a million units per month. Its sales performance also demonstrated that it is maintaining its leading position againsts its competitors—Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Nintendo Co., Ltd (TYO:7974).
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has not yet released its latest sales figure for the Xbox One. Observers in the gaming industry suggested that the company made significant progress since removing the Kinect from the standard package of the Xbox One.
PlayStation 4 ‘glacier white’ availability
Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) is scheduled to release the “glacier white” PlayStation 4 this fall. According to the company, the PlayStation 4 Glacier White will be available as part of the bundle pack featuring Destiny in North America, Latin America and Europe. The Japanese conglomerate said the PlayStation 4 Glacier White bundle includes a free 30-day membership to the PS Plus*1.
Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) said its will continue to expand the game portfolio of the PlayStation 4 system with more than 120 titles worldwide by end of 2014. Some of the highly-anticipated game titles include LittleBigPlanet 3, SingStar, and DRIVECLUB (SCE World Wide Studios).
Other upcoming titles from independent developers include GALAK-Z: The Dimensional , Secret Ponchos and The Witness and many other titles.
