After searching the CSU campus in San Marcos for 30 minutes, sheriff’s deputies did not find a gunman, according to local media. All they found was a man carrying an umbrella, according to crime reporter Debbi Baker.
No shots were ever fired, and CSU was on lockdown while sheriff’s deputies investigated. No one was injured in the incident. The university has issued an all-clear on its Twitter page, saying the police made contact with the suspect, who didn’t have a weapon after all. Officials lifted the lockdown after that report.
Reports about the situation on the San Marcos campus of California State University continue to roll in. CSU was apparently holding orientations today, and classes are scheduled to begin next week. Some Twitter users and NBC San Diego say that there was a report of someone carrying a “long gun.”

Local media report that ten units from the county sheriff’s department were dispatched to the campus.
