This iPhone App Helps You Fight Jet Lag

Updated on

If you’re a frequent flyer, then you already know how jet lag affects your life. It takes time for us to adjust to the time in the new place. Jet lag sometimes ruins the entire traveling experience. That’s why, just like everything else, there’s an app for the iPhone that will help you recover from jet lag faster.

How Entrain, the iPhone app works

The University of Michigan developed the app, which is called Entrain. It requires the user to first enter a few details and then offers some suggestions such as when to wake up and when to go to sleep in their new time zone. Light is the primary driving input to the body’s circadian clock, and when users input all the details in the app, it can simulate the body’s clock and make recommendations for behavior. The app doesn’t automatically sense light though, so for now, users must manually enter all the details.

Here’s what the app’s official site states:

Entrain is a free app for iOS that connects users to lighting schedules developed by researchers at the University of Michigan. These schedules are mathematically proven to adjust you to new time zones as quickly as possible. Light is the primary driving input to the circadian clock, and by recording your lighting history, we can simulate your body’s clock and make recommendations for behavior.

The iPhone app tells you when to sleep or wake up

The app was developed after a lot of research. However, the basic philosophy, as we know, is that bright light will help you stay awake and darkness will help you sleep. But the app goes one step further and suggests when exactly you should wake up or sleep, scientifically. It aims to help you in recovering jet lag faster by getting your circadian rhythm in line with your new surroundings.

For now, there’s only an iPhone version of this app, but the Android version is also expected to be on the way. Get the app by clicking on the below link.
